Auto Races

It seems that the new blogging trend is to post NASCAR clips or clips of NASCAR fans. Well in the interest of remaining a nonconformist, I (David) have decided to post a different sort of clip. When I initially searched the web for this a year or two ago, the technology had not yet caught up with the antiquated video footage. But now everything can be found on the web. So here is the amazing footage from the race and the driver that initially got me interested in auto racing (provided that you are willing to sit through 3:25 minutes of a not quite as amazing Danny Sullivan tribute).

Buy Nothing Day

For about the past 10 years, we have celebrated the day after Thanksgiving by passing on the chaos that is Black Friday. For many people it is the day to set the alarm for daybreak and rush out to the stores to wait in lines of anxious customers willing to trample one another for door buster sales and get a jump start on their holiday shopping. We encourage you to join us this Friday in saying no to this consumers' holiday and enjoy your time valuing your family and friends rather than your materials. Buy Nothing Day

Firsts

We'd like to rationalize our lack of blogging with the need to leave the last post up for surfers' consideration during the pre-election days. And for good measure, we left it up for an additional week in celebration of the fact that good things can still come from elections.

With that said, here are some long overdue Quinn updates:

Quinn was born in the water and has always liked bath time. So, a few weeks ago we signed Quinn up for swim lessons at the local YMCA figuring she'd be a natural and take to the water like a duck. When we showed up, we found out that we were the only ones who registered for the class. Despite a forewarning that if less than 3 families signed up the class would be canceled, the instructor decided to go ahead one on one. Quinn and David took to the pool. She wasn't terribly thrilled with the thought of being in a big bath tub that was cooler than what she likes. Once the pool toys came out she had a little more fun, but that was short lived. So we ended up cutting the lesson short so as to not traumatize her for next week's lesson which went a lot more smoothly. After the class, she enjoyed watching the other kids playing in the water. We're betting she can't wait till she can run around and play in the pool and go down the water slide on her own.

Quinn also recently enjoyed her first teething biscuit. Vanilla and molasses; yum. She has since had many more and hasn't been quite as messy about it.

Halloween was a bit of a no show in terms of doing anything Halloween-like. But at least we got a photo of Quinn in her costume before she outgrew it.

And for more on these and other Quinn matters, check her photo album.
