Italian Siblings

Brother John will be returning to the cities from Oregon next week. It will be his first chance to see little Quinn in person. Even though he isn't in town quite yet, we had already spotted him the other week when we went to see little sis, Faith, at her new job. She got a job at an Italian restaurant(e). Inside the was John; although it was a slightly chunky John. I guess lots-a pizza can do that to you.

What have we been doing?

Well here we are, well over a week into “Family Medical Leave” part II, and I (David) am just now getting around to updating the blog. I'd like to be able to blame it on all the photo updates (including the new folder dedicated exclusively to Quinn's facial expressions), but the reality is that there just isn't a whole lot of time for it. Evidence of such can be made obvious by looking at the floors in our house and observing that there isn't much time for vacuuming or sweeping either. Still, we've been keeping busy with some fun activities; it's not all eating and pooping. And Heather actually took a few moments to document some of it. Here is what she had to say:

We celebrated our third anniversary (Observed) over the weekend. Per tradition, we spent
the night at the Covington Inn in the Pilot House. We settled in, listened to the Prairie Home Companion and despite being forewarned by the inntaker Liz, we decided to go to the Riverboat Grill for dinner since it was right across the dock. We should have heeded her advice because we had several complaints. Bad experience #1: they were out of scallops, #2: the wind blew my lettuce away, #3: the service, #4: some of the food and #5: dinner was interrupted by about 10 obnoxiously drunk people. After dinner, we walked down to Harriet Island to take in some blues music from the Second Annual St. Paul Blues Festival.

When we got back, we looked forward to testing out the new sleep number mattress
that Liz had recently purchased for some of the rooms since we were in the market for a new mattress and wanted to see if we’d like the sleep number better than the one from before. The first year we stayed there, we noticed that we slept incredibly well and found the mattress very comfortable. I pulled up the fitted sheets to see who manufactured the mattress. It was a local company: The Original Mattress Factory. After being somewhat disappointed with the sleep number bed, we decided to make our purchase at The Original Mattress Factory Thursday. Come next week, we will be sleeping more comfortably.

Our third anniversary (Actual) also brought Quinn's 2-month birthday. We decided to head to Faribault to celebrate with Pat and Bob who were celebrating their 54th anniversary. We had lunch together and had a nice time catching up. After we got back to the cities, we stopped at the wedding garden where we were married and then headed to Boca Chica where our wedding reception was held.

All in all, we had a great week of celebrations. Quinn's gift to us was remaining content through it all. Such a thoughtful child.

Advanced planning

Two events are are on the schedule for late September. I (David) figure that if I start planning now there is no way I'll miss them. Well, I never miss the latter event; the annual Nordic Roots Festival. But by planning now I may get a discounted pass. As it has been reported here before, it makes for a great time, and is worth any and all expenses. It allows you to hear great little ditties like this.

The other event, which I often tend to forget about until after it takes place is the All British Cycling Event. Also known as the ABCE. This year, I plan to have my latest British made machine there. Hopefully it will be enough to win a prize like for the 'his and hers' Heather and I had brought once before. These days, the event runs for an entire weekend. So there is a chance that I might be able to show off something else from the collection.
