So Long Green Stairs

Over the last few days, I knew something was up with the green steps on the west side bluffs. They had been blocked off for the last couple months as had the sidewalk below. On Monday while enjoying a cup of coffee at Grumpy Steve's, I watched as several surveyors and city workers stood at the bottom of the steps and stared up. I was hoping they were there to reopen the stairs.

Unfortunately, yesterday, my hopes were dashed. When I got to work, I looked up and the bridge and landing at the top of the bluff were gone. There were workers cutting the metal and 2 cranes in place taking the stairs down one or two levels at a time. By the end of the day, just a few flights of stairs remained.

Here's the full story from yesterday's pioneer press.

Thunder and Lightning

A couple weeks ago mom and I went to the only showing in Minnesota of the documentary Song Sung Blue at the St. Anthony Main theater during it's annual film festival. It is a story of a couple best known as Thunder and Lightning who formed a Neil Diamond tribute band. Their story is one of living a dream but coming short of attaining their ultimate goal. The story is both inspiring and heart aching.

The film maker interviewed my Auntie Pat, late Great Uncle David and his best friend Tom D'Amato. They spoke about their experiences with and memories of the couple. The film also shows that Eddie Vedder is a very classy guy.

Though the people voted and Song Sung Blue wasn't popular enough to get a second showing at St. Anthony Main, the film is making it's way around the country and I would highly recommend you catch a screening if it comes to a theater near you.
